You walk into this glitzy new boutique and immediately notice the grand ink-black crystal chandelier hanging decadently from the ceiling.
An abstract black mannequin sits stylishly wearing an elegant black dress embellished with gems and gold sequins that shimmer like stardust. Black furniture, black drawers and black bags add to the opulence of the boutique.
The fashion-conscious may recognize this boutique without reading the sign in the window. The details are trademarks of the fashion designers behind the scene -- Italy's Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Jakarta saw its first Dolce and Gabbana boutique open to the public in Grand Indonesia shopping mall Tuesday this week.
After two boutique openings in China -- in Huangzhou in 2005 and Shanghai in 2006 -- Dolce and Gabbana picked Jakarta to be its next Asian project.
The new Dolce and Gabbana boutique has a men's and a women's section.
The spring/summer 2008 collection, which includes hand-painted T-shirts and dresses, is now available along with the Dolce and Gabbana leopard pattern line, Animalier, introduced two years ago.
Two international haute couture labels have opened branches in high-end mall Grand Indonesia this year. Just a few weeks ago, French fashion house Chanel opened its first boutique a few stores down from Dolce and Gabbana's.
Later this year, UK-based high-end fashion retailer Harvey Nichols will also open a branch in the mall.
