Maylaffayza to wear special 'kebaya'

JAKARTA: Violinist Maylaffayza will wear a traditional Javanese kebaya blouse, specially designed to enable her to play violin at her wedding in December, her fiancee Yasha Chatab said.

"The normal kebaya has rather tight sleeves, but that would make it difficult for her to play the violin. So we decided to specially design it," Yasha, a former TV presenter, said on Tuesday.

The unique kebaya is being designed by Anne Avantie, who is known for her elegant, modern kebaya designs.

The couple recently had a pre-wedding photo session in a Moroccan house in Jakarta's posh area of Menteng.

The Sampoerna Strategic Square in Jalan Sudirman, Central Jakarta will also be a location for the couples photos.

Born Maylaffayza Permata Fitri Wiguna on July 10, 1976, Maylaf is one of Indonesia's most renowned violinists. She began playing the violin when she was 9 years old, before studying under the tutorship of legendary Indonesian violinist Idris Sardi. -- JP/Ary Hermawan
