Elimination Shelimination at `SUPERMODELME.tv'

O

kay, so here's the deal right. I was so scared of elimination. Honestly, watching things like America's next top model or any similar reality show where it follows the elimination type process does not give you any sense of what it'll really be like, and there really is no way to prepare for something like this.

There's this overwhelming sensation of utter dread and. and. terror and. anxiety and . a whole lot of other bad, bad, feelings. Christabel Campbell, 21 (SUPERMODELME.tv finalist from Singapore).

Tyra Banks's American Next Top Model series without a doubt is a global fever. All the girls and gays around the world are just going gaga watching and waiting every episode on cable anxious to know who will get eliminated, pack their bags and get sent home. This global phenomenon was immediately adopted in many countries like Germany and Australia who bought the Next Top Model franchise. MTV Indonesia also created something similar to it a couple years ago called MTV Ajang Ajeng while Malaysia have their own Malaysian Dreamgirl.

Recently, our neighboring country Singapore also decided to do something similar - Singaporean style of course. A multimedia production agency Refinery Media together with Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd created what they called SUPERMODELME.tv using a new technology called Substream, the latest web-based subtitling technology to hit Singapore's media industry, which allows viewers to switch between English and Mandarin subtitles with ease as they view online programmes. SUPERMODELME.tv is a reality model search conceptualised and produced by Refinery Media.

Though such a concept is also being adopted by Malaysian Dreamgirl, Refinery Media try to bring it up a notch by introducing and using Hyperspot technology, the hottest tech-speak that will bring virtual lifestyle entertainment to the very next interactive level. With Hyperspot technology enabled, viewers can receive real-time information on the models apparel, as well as exclusive hair and beauty tips, simply by clicking on the images of their choice. Viewers will also be able to enjoy instant information on the brands, prices and even details on where to buy the outfits worn by the models.

Each week we can see the transformation, the photo shoot and the one who will get eliminated and sent home to where they came from. Ten of these model wannabees are putting themselves up to join the game and to do whatever it takes to avoid that "Elimination Shelimination". Of course, this is not an easy job to do. First they have to survive among their own direct competitors who live in one and the same house, championing each challenge whilst, most of all, impressing both resident and guest judges.

The resident judges are quite intimidating for any new models, especially like the wannabees on this show. Who would not be nervous standing and being judged in front of veteran photographers like Geoff Ang and Olivier Henry accompanied by Her World Singapore fashion and beauty director, Jeanette Ejiersen as well as Grace Lee - the editor in chief of NuYou magazine? For sure, I would if I were among them.

Like in another similar show, SUPERMODELME.tv finalists are young girls from 17 years old up to 23 years old coming from America, Britain, Sweden, Australia, Malaysia and of course Singapore. Though it sounds very international, none of them is actually blond. Apparently all of them have an Asian mix.

Starting on 16th June for the next 10 weeks, during 20 episodes, broadcasting twice weekly online, SUPERMODELME.tv watches 10 model wannabees sashay and shante for the grand prize of SGD$10,000 and for the chance to become a prominent fashion fixture on runways and in fashion magazines for years to come. I know Rupaul will surely compete against them if she is still running for super model!

So prepare yourself for the rollercoaster ride of gossip, backstabbing, cat fights and tears and then follow each elimination to the end. Who will be the first Super Model of Singapore? Let us wait and see at SUPERMODELME.tv
