Minister asks S. Korea to investigate the death of Indonesian migrant worker

The government has asked the South Korean government to thoroughly investigate a case of suspected employer negligence leading to a work accident which resulted in the death of an Indonesian migrant worker.

igrant Workers Protection Minister Abdul Kadir Karding asked South Korean law enforcement agencies to investigate the death of an Indonesian migrant worker in a work accident.

“The company that employed the worker is being investigated by the South Korean authorities,” Karding said in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

“We will ensure that the case is being investigated, because there are suspicions of negligence in keeping the workers safe.”

The government, through the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, has urged law enforcement authorities and the company to conduct a deeper investigation into the possibility of negligence leading to the workplace accident.

Karding said that the government would follow the legal process in South Korea. He added that the case was reported by the Indonesian Embassy.

He was commenting on the work accident that killed Ngadiman, an Indonesian migrant worker from Cilacap, Central Java. The migrant worker died after his hand were pulled into a conveyor machine after cleaning it. He was rushed to a hospital in Cheongwon city but could not be saved.
