AKARTA: Former Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Miranda Swaray Goeltom testified at a hearing at the Corruption Court on Thursday, confirming previous testimony that she met with a number of legislators prior to their vote to elect the senior deputy governor.
She testified as a witness in the trial of defendant Dudhi Makmum Murod, a former legislator from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
She said the meeting took place at the Dharmawangsa Hotel, where she presented her vision and mission if she was elected and that the meeting was not to bribe the legislators to vote for her.
Miranda added that the meeting was not exclusively for PDI-P legislators.
She said she could not recall whether she called the meeting or was a guest.
Miranda also said she forgot who was present, but said she footed the bill for the meeting.
Two other witnesses who were scheduled to testify at the trial on Thursday, Nunun Nurbaeti and Panda Nababan, did not show. Nunun, who allegedly supplied the bribe in the form of travelers' checks, said that she suffered from an illness that rendered her "severely forgetful". Panda, a PDI-P legislator, cited illness for his failure to appear.
Dudhie is being tried for allegedly accepting a bribe to vote for Miranda. Apart from Dudhie, three former legislators from the legislature's Commission IX overseeing finance have also been named suspects.
