AKARTA: Water company PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) said it has earmarked Rp 130 billion (US$14.4 million) to improve its pipe networks in the capital.
The money would go into the project of revamping the outdated pipe network. “Even the pipe at the U.S. Embassy is corroding,” Palyja spokesperson Meyritha Maryani said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
She said that about 3,000 kilometers of a total of 5,000 kilometers of pipe are in bad shape. “We lost 42.3 percent of the water because of the leakage,” she said. The company expects to reduce the leakage level to 40 percent.
As of December of last year, Palyja had completed repair work on 935 kilometers of pipe and added 1,278 kilometers of pipe to its network. — JP
