AKARTA: The city government is expected to ban container trucks and oversized trucks from traveling on the Cawang-Tomang city toll road between Thursday and Monday to allow space for the entourages of state leaders attending the 18th ASEAN Summit.
City Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono said the ban would be imposed between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m.
“This measure was taken to reduce traffic in Senayan, Kuningan, Semanggi and the downtown areas of Jl. Jenderal Sudirman and Jl. M.H. Thamrin,” Pristono said.
Trucks will be redirected to outer-city toll roads and arterial roads. The administration plans to deploy 8,000 security personnel to safeguard the capital during the summit, slated from May 4 to May 8.
The City Police also plans to close Jl. Jenderal Sudirman and Jl. M.H. Thamrin for at least a half an hour on Saturday morning when the motorcades of ASEAN leaders depart from their hotels to the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Senayan, where the meeting will take place. — JP
