AST FLORES: Yoseph Laga Doni Herin and Valentinus Tukan were sworn in as East Flores regent and vice regent for the 2011-2016 terms on Tuesday by East Nusa Tenggara Governor Frans Leburaya after the Constitutional Court ruled that the election results were valid.

The pair, nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), won 35 percent of the votes during the election last May, beating the other five pairs of candidates. Yoseph was formerly a Democratic Party politician and former East Flores vice regent who switched to the PDI-P.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony, Leburaya expressed hope that differences in political orientation during the election could be put behind all parties, so that everyone could focus on and participate in the development of the region.
