AKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reminded his ministers to keep their remarks at international forums in line with the official stance of the government.
In 2012, Indonesia will attend several international meetings, including those of the G20, APEC, ASEAN and East Asia Summit.
“I know ministers are often invited to attend ASEAN, ASEAN Plus or bilateral meetings.
“I hope and I want to remind you that your statements must be in line with the position and policies of Indonesia,” Yudhoyono said during a plenary Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
According to Yudhoyono, people in international forums would be confused if the Indonesian President and his ministers made contradicting statements.
“The duty of the foreign affairs minister is to disseminate the important things that have been decided and negotiated by the President in international forums,” he said.
