Papua New Guinea (PNG) says it has accepted Indonesia’s explanation over the Air Force jets scrambled to meet a plane carrying top PNG diplomats through Indonesian airspace.

Bilateral relations between the countries remained “solid” and needed to be further expanded, PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said according to a statement, a copy of which was obtained by The Jakarta Post.

O’Neill earlier threatened to expel Indonesian Ambassador to PNG Andreas Sitepu from Port Moresby, following reports that two Air Force jets intercepted a PNG Falcon jet carrying Deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah and other senior officials to PNG from Malaysia on Nov. 29,2011.

Your comments:

Prime Minister O’Neill, you should check first what you said in your airspace permit application before speaking out and blaming us.

I think PNG officials must learn how to read and write better. Papua New Guinea should apologize to
Indonesia for this.

Evy Arbay

O’Neill stated that he accepted the government’s explanation for the intercept by Indonesian jet fighters.

Then there were allegations that those on the jet were involved in money laundering. Who are the criminals now and who is doing a good job?

Who can judge?

Dani

Did O’Neill have problems reading the dates? Or did he have something to hide?

Klen

Why did the plane take off from Malaysia on the wrong date? It must have something to do with timber money. The Indonesian Military has to check this out in detail.
