AKARTA: Bogor CC and GMIS CC beat India XI and TOPI XI respectively in Sunday’s matches in the Apple Coal JCA League 2011-12, and qualified for the knockout stage.

India XI’s slim hope of making it to the knockout stage was dashed as Bogor thrashed them by 8 wickets at Cibubur cricket grounds in East Jakarta.

Electing to bat first, India XI squandered a good start when they slumped from 82/1 to 147 all out in 29 overs. Lalit Balchandani (59 n.o.) and Avakash (37) were the only two batsmen to put up some fight against Bogor bowlers.

Maulana and Scott Mason shared 7 wickets amongst them to give Bogor a reasonable score to chase. Bogor’s batsmen completed the formalities in just 21 overs. Bashrat Ali made a quick-fire 68 and Hanan made 43 runs. With this win Bogor is virtually assured of a place in the top 4.

At GMIS grounds, home team GMIS CC was given a scare by TOPI, before it came out victorious in a closely fought game.

Batting first, GMIS CC piled up 280 runs on board on the back of half centuries by Anil Yadav and Neetesh Pansare. Steve Broberg took 3 wickets. TOPI fought valiantly with Pat Savina top scoring with 86 runs along with Sean Hankin who made 54 runs, and brought their team to within 23 runs of victory.

TOPI ended up at 258 runs. Neetesh and Anil picked up 2 wickets apiece.

“WISCI, Menara and Bogor have already booked their spots in the top 4, with one of Senayan or Ceylon taking the remaining spot. Top 2 teams go straight into semis, while teams placed third and fourth play quarterfinals. GMIS CC, Indorama and Rebels have qualified for pre-quarterfinals”, said JCA spokesperson Deepak Khullar. — JP
