he National Police’s antiterror squad Densus 88 raided the homes on Friday afternoon of three terror suspects that they had previously arrested in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Thursday and Friday.
The three suspects were identified as Winduro bin Nur Hadi, 28, Feri Susanto, 23, and Bambang Kurmanto, 45. Winduro was arrested on Thursday afternoon in a musholla (house of prayers) near his home while Feri and Bambang were arrested on Friday.
National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said the three were suspected of being involved in the Harakah Sunni for Indonesian Community (HASMI) network led by Abu Hanifah. “They were arrested because they are suspected of storing chemicals and explosive powder for suspect Abu Hanifah,” Agus told reporters in Jakarta on Friday as quoted by Kompas.com.
Mulyanto, a local resident who was in the musholla at the time of the arrest, said that Winduro had never acted weirdly. He worked as a garbage collector and always acted normally.
Winduro’s father and younger brother who were also in the musholla, according to Mulyanto, also questioned the police about the arrest. “His younger brother cried in front of the musholla when Winduro was arrested,” Mulyanto said.
Another local, Parman, said that when the police came to the three neighboring houses at about 2:30 p.m., the houses were empty. Parman said the three suspects were residents of Pulosari, Karanganyar. They regularly joined the prayers at the Uswatun Khasanah musholla where Winduro was arrested.
The police reportedly found black powder suspected of being a bomb-making ingredient, three Molotov cocktails and a flashlight in Feri’s house. So far, no official statement has been made by the local police regarding the arrest and the raids.
The police previously arrested 11 suspected members of the HASMI network on Nov. 27 in four different locations. The network has allegedly been involved in bomb-making training in Gunung Wilis.
They are also suspected of planning to bomb a number of targets including the US consulate general in Surabaya, East Java, the US Embassy in Jakarta, Plaza 89 across from the Australian Embassy, which is also the office of Freeport, and the Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Central Java.
