As many as 1,231 legislative candidates from across Aceh will take a Koran recital test organized by the Aceh Independent Election Monitoring Committee (KIP) as part of a requirement for every person contesting
the 2014 election.

Your comments:

After they are elected, they have to carry out their duties in accordance with the teachings in the Koran for the security and prosperity of all people of different religions and ethnicity in Aceh province.

Tri Priyatmo

This means all legislative candidates that embrace religions or beliefs other than Islam, no matter how knowledgeable and sagacious and honest they are, are barred from competing.

Being able to perfectly understand and fluently recite passages from the Koran has never been, and will never be, a guarantee for impeccable and praiseworthy performance. It won'€™t guarantee a free ticket to heaven, either.

What good is it if you can read and recite but do not understand what you are reading?
