orantalo police say they have shot and arrested an alleged member of a gang of motorcycle thieves operating along the Trans-Sulawesi route.

DM, 22, who was on the police'€™s most-wanted (DPO) list, was shot in the right leg as he fled officers in Hutuo village in Limboto, Gorontalo on Saturday.

'€œTwo other suspects who are also repeat offenders with initials RP, 35, and AS, 19, were also arrested,'€ Gorontalo Metro Police detective chief First Insp.Adi Pradana said on Tuesday.

Police confiscated 12 motorcycles the men allegedly stole from residents of Gorontalo city during April, when the gang took advantage of the activity surrounding the mayoral election.

'€œIt seems that they benefitted from the situation in which police were focusing their attention more on securing the mayoral election,'€ Adi said.

The detective added than the suspects told investigators that they had stolen more than 200 motorcycles in North Sulawesi.

'€œBefore operating in Gorontalo, they stole 16 motorcycles in Manado,'€ Adi said. (nai/ebf)
