Q

oriah binti Ahmad Irfan, a 45-year- old migrant worker from Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), who was reported to have also fallen victim in Sunday'€™s Jeddah riot, died from exhaustion in hospital on Monday, after queuing up at the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to obtain a travel document.

'€œSo, Qoriah did not die in the riot in KJRI Jeddah but in hospitaldue to exhaustion after lining up at the consulate'€™s counter,'€ said H.Zainal, head of labor placement and expansion at the province'€™s manpower and transmigration agency, on Thursday.

Reports previously said that Qoriah was one of two Indonesians, besides Marwah binti Hasan, who were killed when hundreds of migrant workers, who were mostly illegal, stampeded to get travel documents on Sunday.

Zainal said Qoriah was among workers who queued up at the embassy in Jeddah when the riot occurred. She survived but failed to obtain the document so returned the following day.

'€œAs her condition continued to worsen, Qoriah was taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, she died when being treated in the hospital on Monday,'€ said Zainal.

It was reported that the city'€™s temperature, which reaches 45 degrees Celcius, contributed to her frail condition. Qoriah was buried in Jeddah as it otherwise could take one month to bring her body home. (hrl/ebf)
