undreds of members of the Islamic People'€™s Forum (FUI) against the 2013 Miss World pageant in Indonesia rallied in front of the MNC Tower building on Tuesday saying such a contest could damage the nation'€™s morality and the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

FUI secretary general Muhammad Al Khotthap said the pageant was not in line with Indonesian culture, which did not exploit women'€™s bodies.

'€œOur culture teaches us to not disgrace ourselves. We should maintain such a culture. This contest could damage the NKRI,'€ said al Khotthap to the crowd gathered in front of the MNC Tower building as quoted by kompas.com.

According to him, the pageant violated the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI)'€™s verdict No.287/2001.

'€œIn Miss World, participants show off their '€˜aurat'€™ [the parts of a woman'€™s body that should be covered under Islam]. They wear tight clothes and make movements that are sexually stimulating,'€ said al Khotthap.

The roughly 200 protesters marched from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle to the MNC building and several FUI member spoke with representatives from the company.

Miss World'€™s organizing committee in Indonesia is led by Liliana Hary Tanoesoedibjo, the wife of MNC Group owner, Hary Tanoesoedibjo. (apt/ebf)
