tate-owned construction firm PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) announced that the Tokyu Corp-WIKA consortium of contractors had secured contracts worth nearly Rp 3 trillion to construct segments of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project.

The contracts, sealed through a letter of acceptance dated Sept. 6, comprise two elements, the CP101 and CP102. Both involve the construction of an elevated railway that will connect Lebak Bulus and Cipete, two areas in South Jakarta.

CP101, worth ¥5.95 billion (US$59.33 million) on top of another Rp 1.01 trillion ($89.02 million), will cover the construction of two depots and a 1.2-kilometer elevated railway equipped with a station.

CP102, valued at 2.23 billion yen in addition to Rp 898.19 billion, entails the construction of a 4.7-kilometer elevated railway replete with two stations.

WIKA spokesman, Natal Argawan Pardede, said the consortium had secured the tenders, worth Rp 2.8 trillion in total, because they had provided '€œthe best offer'€.

'€œOur bid met the required period for the completion of the project,'€ he said.

WIKA has a 40 percent share in the consortium, with the remaining share going to its Japanese counterpart, Tokyu Corp.

He added that construction work would start early next year and would require approximately 56 months to be fully completed.

'€œThat is approximately five years, which means we will complete the project entering 2018,'€ he said.

He further noted that the consortium would work on completing both elements simultaneously.

'€œWe will also be working on our previous projects involving the construction of underground sections of the MRT,'€ he said.

WIKA'€™s other consortium with Jaya Konstruksi, Obayashi and Shimizu, previously secured two of the three elements '€“ CP104 and CP105 '€“ for the first phase of constructing the underground sections of the MRT.

CP104, worth ¥1.4 billion and Rp 846.28 billion, involves the construction of a 30-meter deep and 1.8-meter long underground section stretching from Senayan to Istora, both in Central Jakarta.

The CP105 project, valued at ¥1.05 billion and Rp 959.66 billion, involves the construction of a 2-
kilometer underground section from Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta to Setiabudi, South Jakarta.

Natal added the project'€™s completion would not be hampered by rising costs due to inflation, considering this government-led project applied price escalation.
