T

he construction of the Casablanca elevated roadconnecting Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, to Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, isexpected to be completed this month despite limitations.

Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama said that the project had progressed slowly because construction could only be done at night.

'€œThey have difficulties because they can only work between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.,'€ he said on Tuesday.

However, Ahok was upbeat that the project would be completed this month.

'€œThe project should be completed in November so we can open it for a trial run in December,'€ he added.

Jakarta Public Works Agency head Manggas Rudy Siahaan acknowledged that difficulties had been faced by project contractors PT Istaka Karya and PT Sumber Sari and subcontractor PT Nindya Karya, which won the tender for the Jl. KH Mas Mansyur segment.

'€œThe construction area is very narrow and can'€™t be accessed by heavy equipment. That'€™s why this project can'€™t be done sooner,'€ he said.

The Casablanca elevated road project was initiated by former governor Fauzi Bowo in 2010.
