Indonesia'€™s rowing team met its target of winning four gold medals after Erni Sokoy secured the team'€™s fourth in the women'€™s 200-meter canoeing event at Ngalaik Reservoir in Naypyitaw on Friday.

The team has added five silvers and a bronze medal to its tally. The rowing race offered a total of 16 gold medals, with Thailand winning the most with five.

However, in the 200-meter canoeing event, Erni surpassed Thailand'€™s Kanokpan Suansan and host athlete Hnin Wai Lwin.

On Thursday, Erni helped the team win three of the six gold medals on offer. She triumphed in the women'€™s 500-meter kayaking while the other two came from the men'€™s 500-meter canoeing event via Spensstuber Mehue and the men'€™s 500-meter double canoeing race via Anwar Tarra and Eka Octarorianus.

'€œThank God we'€™ve met the target,'€ team manager Muhamad Suryadi said.

Unfortunately, Spensstuber could not continue his winning streak when Thailand'€™s Rungsawan Suansan outperformed him on Friday.

The Thai clocked 41.666 seconds with Spensstuber having to settle for silver on 41.906 seconds. Vietnam'€™s Van Long Tran and Cambodia'€™s Pheary In shared third with a time of 43.106.

The performances of Eka and Anwar also dropped, with them only taking bronze from the men'€™s 200-meter canoeing. They were outdone by Thailand'€™s Phanudet Phetmikha/Nares Naoprakon and Maung Maung/Win Htike of Myanmar, who reached the finish line in 38.692 and 39.400 seconds, respectively.

Team manager Suryadi conceded his team faced tough opposition and pointed to the medal distribution as proof of tight competition.

Myanmar ended the race on an equal amount of golds as Indonesia.

'€œIf we want to improve our achievements, we need to train hard considering the balance of power in canoeing and kayaking,'€ he said.
