eoplein North Sumatra and Aceh are likely spend the night without electricity againas state-owned electricity company PT PLN has tailored rolling blackouts due togenerators breaking down.
According to the company, the malfunctioning generators located at the Belawan Seaport and the Labuhan Angin in North Tapanuli caused a power deficit of up to 200 megawatts.
'We still don't know when these rolling blackouts will end,' Raidir Sigalingging of PT PLN said on Friday.
In the mean time, he added, PLN had rented a diesel generator to replace the broken ones.
Commenting on this, Consumer Advocacy and Protection Institute (LAPK) director Farid Wadji said he doubted that renting a diesel generator would be effective.
'Rolling blackouts will force our industry to limit their production and it will impact the livelihoods of the workers as well,' he said.
Therefore he suggested that law enforcers evaluate the whole system to avoid similar problems from happening again.(dic)
