resident Prabowo Subianto has ordered law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to shut down illegal mining and smuggling as he witnessed the handover of assets worth up to Rp 7 trillion (US$422 million) seized from corruption cases involving tin operations and rare earth extraction.
The handover took place in the tin-rich province of Bangka Belitung, where Prabowo, accompanied by top government and military officials, oversaw the formal transfer of confiscated assets by the Office of the Assistant Attorney General for Extraordinary Crimes to state tin miner PT Timah and state asset fund Danantara for oversight.
“This is proof that the government is serious and determined to eradicate smuggling and illegal mining, to eliminate all violations of the law,” he told reporters after the handover at PT Tinindo Internusa’s smelter site in Pangkal Pinang of Bangka Island.
“Continue. We must save the nation’s wealth for our people,” he said, calling on authorities including the attorney general, the military, customs and the coast guard to sustain the crackdown.

The confiscated assets to Timah include six smelters, 108 units of heavy equipment and 680 tonnes of refined tin ingot, which the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) estimates could generate Rp 4.6 trillion in annual state revenue once reactivated under state supervision.
Authorities also seized about 40,000 tonnes of rare earth minerals, including monazite, which Prabowo said could generate “two hundred thousand dollars” per tonne once processed.
