ourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu has set a target forIndonesia to become a global Muslim fashion hub by 2020, due to the country'€™sflourishing Muslim garment and clothing industry.

"Indonesia shall become the world's hub for Muslim fashion in 2020. Wehave an abundance of creative Muslim wear with bold designs; we have a lot of potential,"Mari said on the sidelines of Indonesian Creative Products Week (PPKI) in Batam onFriday, as quoted by Antara news agency. 

She hopes that every region can develop its potential for producing Muslim fashion.

She said that the government has held an annual Muslim clothing festival forthe past few years in Jakarta in order to strengthen the country's position asa mecca for Muslim fashion.

In addition, the government is collaborating with three Muslim clothingdesigners, including Dian Pelangi, to participate in important fashion eventsoutside the country.

"We took [Dian Pelangi] to London [UK] and the response wasincredible," Mari said.

PPKI 2014 is being held from June 6 to 13, in conjunction with the 25thNational Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ),a Koran recitation contest. (nfo)
