T

housands of people have taken part in a public opinionpoll on Facebook to select ministers for president-elect Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo'€™sCabinet.

Organized by, the Jokowi Center, a volunteer support group the public was able to choose its favorite candidates to fill 34 ministerial posts, based on the design of the current Cabinet. Three candidates were proposed for each post, but if someone did not want any of the three, they could check '€œother'€.

As of Friday afternoon, the Jokowi Center'€™s Facebook page reported that around 85,000 people participated in the poll.

'€œDon'€™t forget to ask your relatives and friends to participate,'€ the team'€™s spokesperson said on Friday.

While many have said they doubt Jokowi will seriously consider the candidates chosen in the poll, the Jokowi Center said it would announce the results by the end of September at the latest.

Some of the candidates put forward in the poll are considered controversial figures, such as former maritime and fisheries minister Rokhmin Dahuri, who was convicted for corruption, and former National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Gen. (ret) Abdullah Mahmud Hendropriyono, who faces accusations over his alleged involvement in the Talangsari case and the murder of human rights activist Munir.
