olkar Party deputy secretary-general Lalu Mara Satriawangsa has denied that chairman Aburizal Bakrie has fired his deputy, Agung Laksono, who is also the coordinating people'€™s welfare minister.

Senior Golkar politician Zainal Bintang previously confirmed that Aburizal had dismissed Agung. He said that he was confident that it was true as he had received confirmation from Agung himself.

'€œThere is no dismissal. [What actually happened] is rejuvenation to strengthen the organization. It's like a reshuffle,'€ Lalu said on Tuesday as quoted by kontan.co.id.

'€œRegarding Pak Agung, I have yet to hear [about a dismissal]. There hasn'€™t been any decision [on him],'€ he went on, adding that the party had yet to discuss people to be reshuffled.

Zainal previously said that he claimed that Aburizal had dismissed Agung because the latter had strongly criticized the former about the party'€™s decision to form a coalition with the Gerindra Party to support the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential ticket. Agung is among the Golkar politicians who have called for a national party congress in 2014.

Internal conflict has been rife within the party since it failed to secure a victory in the legislative election on April 9. Many senior Golkar politicians blame Aburizal'€™s political maneuvering. Other Party members who have challenged Aburizal'€™s moves have also reportedly been threatened with dismissal. (alz)
