The US-based social media giant Twitter has announced plans to open a Jakarta office in the next three to six months. Twitter president of global revenue and partnership Adam Baim said Indonesia had become Twitter's a primary market thanks to massive user-growth.
'Indonesians use Twitter for a variety of reasons,' he told reporters on Friday as quoted by tempo.co.
Baim said the Indonesian office would be the company's sixth in the Asia-Pacific region.
Besides favorable market conditions, he said Indonesia had been chosen for its ability to maintain security after the presidential election. He expected Twitter would be able to serve its users better by opening a Jakarta office.
According to a 2013 Twitter report, Indonesia ranked fifth in Twitter use worldwide, with 29 million users, trailing the US, Brazil, Japan and the UK.
Paris-based social media consultant Semiocast reported that Jakarta was home to the largest concentration of Twitter users, making up 2 percent of the 10.6 billion tweets worldwide.
Jakarta has become the most active Twitter city, surpassing London and Tokyo, which are the second and the third most active cities, respectively.(alz)
