he Jakarta Transportation Agency towed 10 illegally parked vehicles on Monday during a number raids carried out on illegal parking spots across the capital on Monday.
The agency raided Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Tanah Abang and Jakarta Kota Station in Central Jakarta, Kalibata in South Jakarta and Marunda in North Jakarta between 9:00 a.m and 12:00 p.m.
The agency's land transportation department head, Syafrin Laputo, said the vehicles would be taken to the agency's vehicle compounds in Rawa Buaya in West Jakarta, Pulogebang Terminal in East Jakarta and Tanah Merdeka Terminal in North Jakarta.
Syafrin said that the owners of the cars were obliged to pay a Rp 500,000 (US$42.63) fine to get their cars back.
'Payments can be done through Bank DKI ATMs or through Bank DKI tellers, which have virtual account numbers. There will be no direct contact between transportation officers and the violators,' he said in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The 2012 regional law on retribution stipulates that the Jakarta administration may collect Rp 500,000 a day for every illegal parked car in the city. (dyl/nfo)
