he wheel of a Twin Otter plane operated by airline company PT Trigana Air Service slipped off the runway while landing at Enarotali Airport in Paniai, Papua, at 1:30 p.m. local time on Sunday.
'The plane slipped off the runway while landing as a result of strong winds. No fatality was reported in the incident,' the Mimika administration's air transportation agency head, John Rettob, told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
He said the Trigana Air flight piloted by Capt. Robert Runtu with co-pilot FO Jihad did not have any passengers aboard when the incident occurred. The plane flew from Timika to pick up passengers who wished to return home after spending their Christmas holidays in Enarotali.
'No passenger was aboard the Trigana flight. The aircraft was on its way to pick up passengers who wanted to return to Timika after Christmas,' said John.
The plane's front wheel and propeller were damaged in the crash. "The weather in Enarotali was actually quite clear but strong winds suddenly blew in,' he said. (ebf)(+++)
