nother child from the nomadic Anak Dalam tribe, also known as the Orang Rimba, died after suffering from bronchial pneumonia,in Jambi on Sunday.

The 5-year-old girl, daughter of Metik, died at Hamba hospital in Muara Bulian regency. She had received treatment at the hospital from March 13 to 18. Her parents could not stay out of the forest for long and decided to take her back into the forest, where her condition worsened, forcing Metik to return to hospital with her child on March 21.

In March alone, 16 children and two adults from the nomadic group received medical treatment in health centers. They represent a few of the many Orang Rimba members in need of food, water and medicine, as oil-palm plantations and other developments damage their environment.

At least 11 Orang Rimba tribe members have died in the past several months, with dozens of members, especially children, suffering from high fevers, coughs and malnutrition.

The practice of melangun, or moving from one place to another, especially after the death of a relative, is a strong tradition among the tribe.
