G

overnor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama lost his temper with former residents of Pinangsia, West Jakarta, who went to City Hall on Wednesday to protest their eviction.

About a dozen middle-aged women and their young children went to City Hall early Wednesday to meet Ahok. They were among Pinangsia residents evicted from their homes last week and relocated to the Marunda low cost-apartment (rusunawa) in North Jakarta. Their homes in Pinangsia were built on the Ciliwung riverbanks.

However, the residents expressed displeasure with their relocation and asked to be moved to Muara Baru low-cost apartment in North Jakarta. They complained to Ahok that their workplace and children's schools were far from the rusunawa.

"Pak, our children are doing well in their current school. They don't want to be moved," one woman told Ahok. She looked at Ahok pleadingly and pointed at the children standing just a few meters away. The women also brought along their children's school reports for proof.

However, Ahok said that the city had provided housing in the Marunda low-cost apartment especially for them.

Hearing the residents' complaints, Ahok become angry and raised his voice.

"You're using children for your protest. Don't use children," Ahok said loudly to scold the residents.

"Whatever the case, you lived illegally on the land," he said. (hhr)(++++)
