resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is slated to inaugurate the Maratua airport in resource-rich Berau regency, East Kalimantan, and 17 other airports nationwide.
East Kalimantan Transportation Agency head Zairin Zain said in Samarinda on Sunday that the 18 airports would be inaugurated by the President, but it had not been decided when. He said the provincial administration had spent Rp 100 billion (US$7.69 million) on the airport's construction and the central government had spent Rp 40 billion.
The airport's 1,400-meter-long runway had been built while the arrival and departure terminals were still under construction.
'The airport's construction was expedited thanks to cooperation between the Berau regency administration, the provincial government and the central government,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
