Indonesia and Turkey share a blossoming relationship in economic matters as well as education and cultural interaction, as indicated by the growing popularity of Turkish television series in the archipelago, an envoy has said.
At a reception to celebrate the 92nd Turkish National Day on Thursday, Turkish Ambassador Zekeriya Akcam said Indonesia was a very important friend for Turkey, the two countries maintaining excellent relations in areas from the economy to cooperation in fighting religious extremism.
Akcam also noted the growing popularity of Turkish TV series in Indonesia, which he said greatly contributed to people-to-people cooperation.
A recent survey by Nielsen Television Audience Measurement revealed that Indonesian viewers spent more time ' 31 minutes per view per day on average- watching Turkish series than those of any other nation, including Indonesia. The most popular Turkish series is Elif.
The survey found that during the survey period, 11 titles of Turkish series were aired on TV, while at the same time there were 202 Indonesian titles, but domestic series gained an average of just 18 minutes per view.
'The popularity of Turkish movies is great news for the relationship between our two countries,' Akcam said.
Akcam personally welcomed and greeted each and every guest, including Transportation Minister Ignatius Jonan and House of Representatives member Hidayat Nur Wahid.
Jonan said he expected Turkey and Indonesia to continue their years of friendship and bilateral relations, including in the gas power plant industry, education and tourism.
'We would also like to continue the relation in various business forums,' he continued.
Turkey and Indonesia share similar values in the realm of foreign policy. Both countries aim to be more important players in prestigious international groupings and forums such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the G-20, the D-8, the Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia (MIKTA) forum and Dialogue among Civilizations.
