State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina has suspended four employees for alleged oil and gas mafia involvement relating to the firm's Singapore-based trading arm Pertamina Energy Trading Ltd. (Petral).
'We are still carrying out an internal investigation. ['¦] The four employees have been suspended,' Pertamina marketing director Ahmad Bambang told thejakartapost.com on Monday.
Bambang said that Pertamina would continue to investigate the case, not only to confirm the involvement of the four Petral employees but also to determine the seriousness of any violations committed.
'Pertamina will take two measures against them. In terms of corporate action, we will give them sanctions, but for legal action, we are still waiting on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK),' he said.
Earlier, Pertamina CEO Dwi Soetjipto delivered Petral's audit results to the KPK, following a request made by the anti-graft body on Nov. 13.
Dwi said that although Petral's audit process had been finished, Pertamina would continue its investigation into oil and gas price-leak cases by questioning the latter's employees and business partners.
He explained that the Petral audit had revealed that some employees had refused to provide information related to the price leaks. 'We will take serious action and fire any personnel proven guilty of violating regulations,' said Dwi.
The investigation and audit of Petral found that neither government officials or Pertamina had any involvement in the oil and gas mafia practices. The findings of the audit revealed that some third parties had intervened in the procurement and purchasing process of oil and fuel for Pertamina Energy Services.
It was also revealed that the third parties mentioned in the audit report had communicated with Petral regarding their interventions in the procurement and purchasing process. (ebf)(+)
