At the request of the National Police, the Immigration Directorate General has reportedly banned Jessica Kumala Wongso, a key witness in the death of Wayan Mirna Salihin, from traveling overseas amid the ongoing investigation surrounding the cyanide-tainted coffee.

The National Police submitted its request for a travel ban to be placed on Jessica to the Immigration Directorate General of the Justice and Human Rights Ministry on Jan. 26, spokesman of the office Heru Santoso said on Friday.

"The ban applies for 20 days," he told thejakartapost.com.

No details on the reason for the ban have been offered by the police.

"It is the authority of the police to reveal the reason for the ban," he said.

Jakarta Police are still investigating the death of Mirna, who died after drinking cyanide-tainted coffee at Olivier cafe in the upscale Grand Indonesia Mall, Central Jakarta, on Jan. 6.

Police investigators have summoned witnesses and experts and have also conducted a series of searches and case reconstructions in their effort to discover the person responsible for the death of newlywed Mirna.

Jakarta Police have not yet named a suspect in the case, saying that they had to be careful handling the case as they feared that a pretrial motion could be filed for, Jakarta Police General Crimes Director Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti said. (rin)
