Bank Indonesia (BI) underlined on Tuesday that necessary measures had been taken to block cyberattacks on its systems.
BI spokesperson Andiwiana said no massive cyberattacks had occurred recently despite hacker group Anonymous pledging last month that it would target banks across the world.
“Thousands of emails enter our system every day. Out of 6,000 emails sent to BI employees, 247 of them were virus-infected, which is normal, right? […] No similarities to the Korean central bank," he said in Jakarta, through a statement.
The central bank, he further said, had taken measures to improve cybersecurity by blocking any communication with regions or countries without digital certification.
Tirta was responding to a Reuters report saying that the central banks of Indonesia and South Korea had been hit by a cyberattack on their websites after hacking group Anonymous pledged last month to target banks.
Central banks worldwide are on high alert after a hacker stole US$81 million from Bangladesh’s central bank in February. (ags)
