The National Police say motorcycles accounted for the majority of vehicle accidents during Idul Fitri.

The police said of 4,626 motorized vehicles involved in traffic accidents a week before and after this year’s Idul Fitri, 3,323 of them were motorcycles. The figure dropped by 15 percent from 3,829 last year, but motorcycles remained the most vulnerable vehicles on the road.

The National Police divided land transportation involved in traffic accidents into six categories. "From those six modes of land transportation, motorcycles still dominated the list," National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Agus Rianto told a press conference at the National Police headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Passenger cars came second at 753 followed by freight cars (324) and buses (129).

According to the police, the overall number of accidents during the holiday declined by 4 percent from 2,530 cases in 2015 to 2,427 this year. (ary)
