Straw already inserted in Mirna’s coffee: Witness This picture shows a CCTV record of the incident at Olivier cafe in Central Jakarta on Jan. 6 when Wayan Mirna Salihin became ill after drinking coffee at the cafe. arlon Napitupulu, an employee of the Olivier café in Central Jakarta, testified in the trial of murder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso on Wednesday that he saw that a straw had been inserted into the cup of coffee that had been ordered by Jessica for Wayan Mirna Salihin, who died of poisoning shortly after drinking the coffee, but he did not know who had inserted the straw.

It was unusual as according to cafe procedure, employees were not supposed to put straws in customer's drinks.

"When I served the cocktails to Jessica, the Vietnamese iced coffee had a straw in it. The tip of the straw was still covered but the straw was inside the coffee," Marlon told judges at Central Jakarta District Court.

He said that Jessica had ordered Sazerac and Old Fashioned cocktails and the Vietnamese iced coffee.

According to the cafe's procedures the straw should have been placed beside the coffee, said Marlon, adding that it was only a customer who could put a straw in a drink.

But when Jessica's lawyer Otto Hasibuan asked him whether he had seen Jessica put the straw in the coffee, he answered that he had not.

Marlon added that he saw that the drink was watery as the ice had melted into the coffee. However, he did not do anything about this as his responsibility was simply to serve the drinks to the customer.

It was reported previously that Jessica chose non-smoking table number 54, with a semi-circle couch for four people. But later, Aprilia Cindy Cornelia, a receptionist, revised her own statement saying that Jessica agreed to take a table Cindy had reserved for her because similar tables in a nearby area had already been reserved.

Cindy said she chose the table in the area that was demanded by Jessica. The prosecutors previously said that the location was selected by Jessica because she wanted to hide from CCTV cameras. (bbn)
