hristine Blasey Ford began her testimony against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Thursday by telling the Senate Judiciary Committee: “I am terrified.”
She looked and sounded it.
Blasey began her testimony by explaining where she went to high school in suburban Maryland and “how I met Brett Kavanaugh, the boy who sexually assaulted me.
”She related the story of encountering Kavanaugh at a pool party one summer during high school in the early 1980s, where she said she had one beer but Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge were “visibly drunk.” Her voice cracking, Ford said that early in the evening she went upstairs to use the bathroom. Someone pushed her into a bedroom. Kavanaugh and Judge entered the room and locked the door behind them. One of them turned up music that was already playing in the room. She was pushed onto the bed, and Kavanaugh climbed on top of her, she said.
He proceeded to grope her and try to remove her clothes, Ford said, sounding as if she might cry.“I believed he was going to rape me. I tried to yell for help. When I did, Brett put his hand over my mouth to stop me from yelling.
“I thought Brett was going to accidentally kill me,” she said.
Kavanaugh has denied the incident ever happened and will testify to the committee later in the day
