With more than 640,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, Andovi da Lopez’s passion may lie more in talking than in reading. However, he admits that before having a career in the entertainment industry, he used to read a lot.

“When I didn’t know that I had a career in entertainment I did a lot of reading because I was pretty serious with my law school,” he said.

“But when I started doing my YouTube videos, I realized that all I wanted to do was to talk to people — whether it’s doing YouTube videos, being on TV; I simply love entertaining.”

However, having such a large following worldwide means that Andovi and his brother, Jovial da Lopez, feel a sense of responsibility in producing entertaining and critical content.

Their motto is “fearless, intelligent, Indonesian” and the duo try to constantly push boundaries with their videos.

“My Prabowo vs. Jokowi Rap Battles of Presidency video is the greatest video I have ever done. When I was about to upload it, my mom tried to stop me but I told her that we’re living in the 21st century and that we should be able to openly talk about politics,” he said.

Due to their work, the brothers recently met President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, when they filmed a video on how to be a president. Within 24 hours of the video being uploaded, it had been watched more than 150,000 times.

Despite having his hands full with YouTube, entertainment and law school, Andovi does appreciate a good book and an inspirational story. Here are three of his all-time favorite books.

---------------

Harry Potter series
by JK Rowling

Fun fact: I was the first person in Indonesia to buy the seventh Harry Potter book. I was first in line at the Gramedia book store in Matraman, Central Jakarta, and I bought the first copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Dreams from My Father
by Barack Obama

Whether or not you disagree with his policies, Barack Obama gives people a chance to dream and hope. His story is one of those rags-to-riches stories that make you believe anything is possible.

A Song of Fire and Ice series
by George RR Martin

I’m 100 percent a Game of Thrones man. I read the series and watched the TV show. I love it.
