Regional Representatives Council (DPD) member has confirmed that council chief Irman Gusman was arrested by the antigraft commission in the early hours of Saturday.
"We have made confirmation and tracked the facts through our internal division and also with the Corruption Eradication Commission [KPK]; it's 99 percent Irman [who was arrested]," West Sulawesi DPD member Asri Anas said on Saturday as reported by tribunnews.com.
Asri said he had yet to acquire further details on the case. He said he did not know what corrupt acts Irman allegedly committed as the DPD does not have any authority or involvement in budgets for projects in the regions.
The DPD is now waiting for an official announcement from the KPK before issuing a statement on the arrest.
Irman was arrested on Saturday morning along with three other people, said to be businessmen who allegedly provided bribes.
The KPK is still questioning all four before deciding whether to name them as suspects. KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo confirmed that an operation took place in relation to a bribery case involving a DPD member, adding that the agency would provide details during a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
