akarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan and his running mate Sandiaga Uno have intensified their visits to residential areas in East Jakarta in their effort to win the hearts of local voters.

On Tuesday, for example, Sandiaga visited Balekambang subdistrict in Kramatjati, East Jakarta, attending a declaration of support from a group of residents calling themselves Rembuk Muslim Betawi (Betawi Muslim Forum).

"East Jakarta is a ‘vote barn’, especially in densely populated places like Condet and Cipayung. Our team is focused on winning the support of East Jakarta," Sandiaga said in Condet, which is regarded as a Betawi kampung, on Tuesday.

As the municipality with the largest numbers of residents, East Jakarta had not received sufficient attention from the Jakarta administration as the city development had focused on West and North Jakarta, Sandiaga said, as Anies greeted residents in Kalimalang Market and Jami Nurul Huda mosque in Tipar, Cakung.

Previously, civil organizations in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, declared their support for Anies and Sandiaga.

The Jakarta General Election Commission has said that around 7.4 million people are eligible to vote in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election. Around 2.1 million voters live in East Jakarta. (bbn)
