The liquid lipstick trend has not shown signs of dying down anytime soon and local brands have jumped on board the gravy train! Local brand Rollover Reaction was one of the first to hop on the trend with a selection of beautiful colors that cater to Indonesians’ myriad skin tones. However, unlike other liquid lipsticks, the Rollover Reaction SUEDED! Lip and Cheek Cream boasts the ability to being used on the cheeks as well as your lips for an all over monochrome look. Although the brand now offers more colors, J+ was offered the chance to try the original five, and — spoiler alert! — we’re kind of in love with them.

Color selection

When you’re browsing lipsticks in store, you always focus on the colors first, right? Luckily enough, Rollover Reaction’s first five colors are awash with beautiful neutrals, pinks and oranges.

Lizzy is described as a nude, soft tone greyed out beige and it is perfect for those who struggle to find a cool-toned nude without any hints of pink or peach. Unless you’re into smokey eyes for a daily look, Lizzy can be a little severe on its own. However, mixed in with other lipsticks, it gives a slight grey undertone which exudes a 90’s Kate Moss vibe. Furthermore, Lizzy great for those who hate wearing blush but want a little oomph to make sure they don’t look too much like the corpse bride.

Lucy is straight up orange despite its description as a soft nude peach. The color is the epitome of summer and would look good on both tanned and fair-skinned women. However, users must be aware that Lucy emphasizes any yellow undertones in your teeth.

Prudence is a soft brown with a slight brick-red tint, only slightly visible to the naked eye. This is a great every day color that can take you from the office to the club, and is complementary to many eye looks. The effect on the cheeks is also very natural, so you can still have that Fall-flush even in the archipelago.

Sally is a dusty rose color and the most feminine of the bunch. Wearing this color on both your lips and cheeks will give you the classic bridal flush-look, while tapping a little on your eye lids — a little, mind you, we don’t want to look like we have pinkeye — will give you a more editorial look.

Saddie is described as a soft nude mauve, but can look completely different on your lips depending on how pigmented your lips are — looking more pink or purple on some lips than others. The color is the most unique in the range and one that is rarely found in other low-end brands.

Packaging

The product is package in a frosted, rectangular case, which will look classy in any makeup collection. Furthermore, the applicator is a classic doe-foot which will help the wearer first trace their lips before filling in the rest of their lips to ensure precise application.

Each lipstick also has a sticker on the bottom of the packaging with the name of the color and also the amount of product — 5.5 grams — each lipstick contains.

Texture, finish and longevity

The SUEDED! Lip and Cheek Creams have a thin, liquidy consistency that is easy to spread on the lips with the doe-foot applicator to give an even color all over the lips. However, unlike other liquid lipsticks, these do not set immediately upon application and stay wet for around five minutes before they set to a matte, velvety finish that isn’t drying so long as you’ve moisturized your lips beforehand. Although these lipsticks set matte, they are not completely transfer proof. However, they do last a good five hours without having to touch up even if you’ve have a good meal of a burger and fries.

The texture, longevity and finish are almost consistent all across the board except for Lucy, which tends to dry up and flake off your lips after two hours. However, this can be amended by some extra moisturizing and exfoliation beforehand.

Conclusion

The SUEDED! Lip and Cheek Cream are well worth your money if you’re an aficionado of liquid lipsticks and love neutral colors. It also helps that they’re only Rp 119,000 (US$9.12) a pop, unlike many other liquid lipsticks on the market.
