embers of the House of Representative's migrant worker supervisory team have departed to Hong Kong for a work visit to identify problems surrounding the employment of Indonesian migrant workers.

The team, which is chaired by outspoken House Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah, arrived in Hong Kong on Saturday and subsequently visited shelters of Indonesian workers.

"Indonesian migrant workers abroad, especially in Hong Kong, are like brothers and sisters, and the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong is like a parent who protects them,” Fahri said, as quoted by kompas.com.

Three main points are on the team’s agenda for the trip: meeting a consortium of insurance companies for migrant workers, discussing the legal protection of migrant workers, and meeting with local immigration authorities.

Fahri was previously reported to the House’s ethics council by I Love Indonesia Circle (LACI), an Indonesian migrant worker group in Hong Kong, for calling Indonesian migrant workers abroad “maids” who "beg for money" in his Twitter account.

Following a public outcry, he deleted the post and apologized.
