ndustry Minister Airlangga Hartarto has announced that the food and beverage (F&B) sector grew 8.46 percent in the fourth semester of 2016, higher than the total growth of the manufacturing industry, which stood at 4.42 percent.
The export value of F&B products reached US$26.39 billion, last year, while the realization of investment in the sector reached Rp 24 trillion ($1.78 billion) from domestic investors and $1.6 billion from foreign investors a up to the third semester of 2016, he said on Thursday.
He noted that coconut drinks in particular had become popular last year.
“Many people enjoy coconut drinks. They have strong [economic] potential. So far we only export the products,” Airlangga said as reported by tempo.co.

Meanwhile, bottled drinking water products contributed 84 percent to the total value of the products, while carbonized drinks contributed 3.6 percent and other beverage products such as isotonic and liquid fruit products contributed 12.4 percent.
Beverage products grew by 6 to 7 percent, last year, said Airlangga, adding that the food and beverage sector would continue to grow this year.
“Investment [in the sector] has also grown, not only based on the types of the products, but also the market segment of the products,” the minister added. (bbn)
