Two of Golkar's founding and largest organizations, Kosgoro and the Mutual Assistance Consultative Organization (MKGR), have declared their support for Airlangga’s reelection.
olkar Party chair Airlangga Hartarto appears on track for reelection in the party’s upcoming chairmanship race after some of its largest secondary organizations pulled together behind his likely bid.
Golkar, the party of former president Soeharto and the country’s oldest, is scheduled to hold its quinquennial leadership election congress in December. The party supported president-elect Prabowo Subianto in the February election.
Two of its largest and founding organizations, Kosgoro and the Mutual Assistance Consultative Organization (MKGR), declared their support for Airlangga’s reelection this week. Kosgoro announced its support on Monday, while the MKGR declared its own on the following day.
Kosgoro chairman Dave Laksono highlighted Airlangga’s success in leading the party to win the second-most votes in the February legislative race and helping president-elect Prabowo win the nation’s top office.
“We see that the person who is able to lead Golkar again for the next term is Pak Airlangga Hartarto. We are holding this event to strengthen Kosgoro’s unity and integrity, while simultaneously handing over letters of our unanimous support without any pressure,” said Dave, the son of Golkar’s advisory council chair Agung Laksono.
An Islamic wing organization affiliated with Golkar, Majelis Dakwah Islamiyah, followed suit on Wednesday, throwing its weight behind Airlangga’s reelection bid.
