T

he South Jakarta Forestry Agency cut down several trees near the University of Indonesia campus in Depok, West Java, on Wednesday to prevent accidents caused by falling trees.

The decision to cut down several trees was made after a tree fell on a car Tuesday afternoon, killing one passenger and injuring two others. The tree fell as a result of heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The agency will reportedly cut down trees in areas along Jl. Margonda heading toward Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta.

“We have marked several trees that will be cut down and trimmed,” said Dani Sukmarandani of the agency on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

In February, a separate accident occurred in which a tree fell on Jl. Lenteng Agung Timur, resulting in the deaths of two motorists. (kuk)
