he South Jakarta District Court is starting to hear the pretrial of former Hanura Party lawmaker Miryam S. Haryani who has been named a suspect of a perjury case in a mega corruption scandal related to the electronic identity card (e-ID) project.
Miryam is challenging the perjury charges from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Aga Khan, Miryam’s lawyer, said the pretrial would start at 9 a.m. and would focus on Miryam’s objection.
“We will just pray,” Aga said on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com. He said there was no special preparation for the pretrial hearing.
KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said they are ready to face the pretrial motion filed by Miryam.
“We will face her pretrial motion. It will not stop the investigations the KPK is currently carrying out on her case,” Febri said.
Miryam, is accused of giving false statements in March when she testified as a witness in an e-ID case hearing for defendants Irman and Sugiharto, two former Home Ministry officials.
In the hearing, she denied an affidavit that she had delivered earlier in front of KPK investigators in which she named several current and former lawmakers that had accepted bribes from the project. (hol/wit)
