View all search resultsespite the government’s decision to introduce floor and ceiling fares for car-hailing services, many users say they will still use app-based transportation services because they offer better services than conventional taxis.
The new fares were set by the government at between Rp 3,500 (US$26 US cents) and Rp 6,000 rupiah per kilometer in Java, Bali and Sumatra and between Rp 3,700 and Rp 6,500 in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua.
"The new tariffs won't really affect me. I already depend on online taxis," said 24-year old private company employee Nicky Aulia in Jakarta on Monday.

In addition to their easy-order procedures, Nicky argued, online-taxi services also offered more certain fares as they appear on her smart-phone screen before she orders.
Although the shuttle bus service to the airport offers cheaper fares, Nicky stressed that she prefers to use online taxis because she has to take another form of transportation to the bus stop or from the bus stop to her house anyway.
Eva Silviana, another private company employee, made similar comments, saying she would continue using online taxis because they were easier to hail and provided a quicker service. "However, I hope they will offer discounts in the future," she said.
Deni Permana, 35, a Go Car driver from Tangerang, said the Go Car tariff was already at around Rp 3,000 per kilometer before the government made its decision. He believed the new tariff would not affect people’s use of online taxis. (bbn)
