Central Java now has a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system connecting all bus centers and train stations across Semarang.
Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo launched the trans-Jateng BRT last Friday at the Bawen bus station in Semarang.
The BRT was initiated by the Central Java administration in cooperation with bus operators in Semarang regency grouped under Koperasi Jasa Transportasi Mulya Orda Serasi.
"This is in line with our principal of development: embracing, not evicting," Ganjar said, adding that the BRT would cost around Rp 5.5 billion (US$410,693) every six months.
The budget, Ganjar said, includes subsidies.

The buses will serve corridor I connecting Semarang Tawan to Bawen station.
However, unlike Jakarta's Transjakarta, the BRT system does not have its own lanes.
For three days after the launch, all people can take the bus for free.
Central Java Transportation Agency head Satriyo Hidayat said the BRT could earn around Rp 945 million in income in the first six months.
In the second year, if the number of passengers reaches the 100 percent target, the income can hopefully reach Rp 2.5 billion.
"All income will be saved and managed under the provincial administration," Satriyo said. (foy/dmr)
