tate-owned commuter line operator Kereta Commuter Indonesia (Indonesia Commuter Train, KCI), has opened an underpass in Bojong Gede station in Bogor, West Java on Thursday.

The underpass was the last of six underpass building projects in 2016 at Tebet station in South Jakarta, Sudimara and Pondok Ranji stations in Tangerang, Citayam in Depok, and Cilebut in Bogor.

KCI spokesperson Eva Chairunisa said the development of the underpasses was intended for the safety of passengers by eliminating crossing sections on railway tracks.

More than 35,000 passengers pass through Bojong Gede station each day.

“The underpass has a 2.5 meter depth under the railway tracks with length of 18.3 meters and width of 5 meters, accompanied by two stairways located on the platform of Jakarta Kota and Bogor stations,” Eva said in a statement.

KCI hoped that passengers will follow the prevailing rules by using the underpass instead of crossing the railway tracks, she added.

In December last year, Manggarai station in Central Jakarta opened an underpass that was 60 meters long and had 7 meters width. The underpass, however, has often been flooded when heavy rains hit Jakarta.
