he Trade Ministry has announced that buyers from 65 countries have signed up to attend Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2017, which will be held at the 50,000-square-meter Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, Banten, from Oct. 11 to Oct. 15.

“Those buyers registered online to visit TEI 2017,” said the Trade Ministry's national export development director general, Arlinda, in Jakarta on Thursday, adding that the data of the buyers was collected up to Oct. 4.

She did not mention the number of buyers, but the ministry set a target of involving 16,000 buyers during the event with a transactions target of US$1.1 billion.

“We expect these buyers to further cooperate with Indonesian exporters," she said.

She said the ministry received 6,658 requests for Indonesian products, most of which were food and beverages, manufacturing products and services, and furnishings and furniture.

The annual event comes at a time when Indonesia is struggling to jack up its exports amid weak overseas demand. This year, the country hopes to raise exports by 5.6 percent to $154.6 billion.

TEI 2017 will showcase a wide variety of goods and services, such as culinary products, furniture, premium products, products of strategic industries and state-owned enterprises, manufacturing, food and beverages and regional-made premium products.

The exhibition will also showcase two special zones: the Indonesia Design Development Center (IDDC) and Germany's Import Promotion Desk (IPD). (bbn)
